Foster

Have room in your home and your heart? Become a Foster Home!

Now more than ever Parrots-R-4ever Avian Rescue and Sanctuary needs foster homes! Every week we turn away birds. Why? Because there is no room for them in our facility. PARS is a small shelter and space is very limited. With the recent economic down turn more people are finding themselves unable to care for their pet birds. At the same time, adoptions are at near record lows! That means that we have very limited space to take in more birds in need.

PARS is looking for qualified homes that would be willing to foster birds in need either long or short term. When you foster a bird, all food/vet care is paid for by PARS. Most bird will be provided with caging and toys. You provide the love, interaction, attention and space! When you Foster you get to see the impact you can have on a bird's life first hand!

We are looking for both "overflow" and "special needs" foster homes. "Overflow" homes house birds that are generally speaking perfectly adoptable that need housing until a potential adopter is located. "Special needs" foster homes take in parrots that have specific issues and work to resolve those issues before being listed for adoption. If you are interested in being a special needs foster home, you must have previous experience with issues in parrot behavior/care. If you feel you would like to be a special needs foster home, but you don't have this experience, please contact us about Volunteering!  At our facility you will get personalized one on one training and experience with the birds that are currently at our shelter. Over time, you will gain the knowledge and experience necessary to become a special needs foster home.

In order to qualify as a foster home you must:
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Live in North Alabama, specifically within the 205 and 256 area codes north of Tuscalossa, AL.
  • Be a home owner or have been in your current rental arrangement a minimum of 2 years. If you rent we will require a letter from your landlord acknowledging that he/she is aware of your intent to house a parrot and that it is permissible for you to maintain it in your rented residence.
  • Not be convicted of animal cruelty, neglect or any related charges at any time in any place
  • Not sell, breed, resell, broker, trade or otherwise exploit captive birds for personal gain in any way.
  • Be willing to submit to an in-home pre-foster inspection and have your experience/skill set with parrots evaluated.

If you meet these requirements and are interested in opening your home and your heart to a bird in need, please contact us via e-mail
