We are always pleased to be given an opportunity to reach out to the public or to provide presentations for private groups. If you are interested in learning more about our organization or interested in learning more about parrot care, we would be happy to talk with you.
Some of the animals in our care have been traumatized and are extremely stressed by strangers. Others may have behavioral issues including aggression and biting. Please note that even a parrot that is not "aggressive" may bite if provoked. PARS actively adopts out birds, so our population changes from time to time. We are also governed by standards set forth by an organization named TAOS - they mandate that birds should never be "exploited" in any way. For these reasons and others, we have the following guidelines for people who wish to request an educational visit either at their location or at our facility:
- We do not permit casual visits from people who simply wish to look around. If you would like to learn or just "talk birds" please contact us by e-mail and we will be happy to work with you.
- All visits must be by appointment only. There are set hours and days for volunteering. Please contact us for further information.
- We can not guarantee that a particular bird or species will be available for any outreach activity.
- Live animals are present only when they would be necessary to further educate the public.
- We do not attend, parties, balls, dances, parades or other social gatherings with our parrots.
- We do not permit the general public to handle our parrots.
- We do not perform photo shoots with the general public holding our parrots.
- PARS does presentations geared for all age groups. However, for groups that are mostly children, we do not typically bring live birds.
- We would be glad to bring power point presentations, video footage, posters, banners, signs and educational handouts for activities that mainly involve children.
